Harmony Youth Asian Ensemble is a 501 (c) (3) International Nonprofit that brings the beauty of Asian music to new audiences through performance, education, and cultural connection.
Traditional Asian instruments are rarely heard or played in the United States, and many young people have never had the opportunity to experience their unique sounds and traditions. We want to change that.
Through creative arrangements that blend Asian and Western instruments, we preserve tradition while creating new possibilities for cross-cultural music. Through lessons, workshops, and community performances, we inspire young people to discover, learn, and share these musical traditions.
Our mission is simple: to make Asian music more visible, more accessible, and more loved in America—one musician, one audience, and one community at a time.
We also give back by donating proceeds from our lessons and performances to local arts organizations supporting music education and the performing arts.
Our experienced student instructors bring years of Guzheng training, practice, and performance experience, making traditional Asian music enjoyable and accessible to students of all backgrounds.
Students can choose between group lessons or private one-on-one instruction, depending on their learning style and goals. Our lessons cover the fundamentals of Guzheng playing, including proper technique, finger placement, reading number notation, traditional Asian melodies, and performance skills. As students progress, they will have opportunities to build confidence, develop their musical abilities, and explore the unique sounds and traditions of the Guzheng.
In-person lessons are available in New Jersey, with online lessons available worldwide. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, we welcome students of all levels.
We understand that obtaining an Asian traditional instrument can sometimes be challenging, especially for families who are new to this musical tradition. To make learning more accessible, we work with trusted instrument vendors who can assist students and families with purchasing or renting suitable instruments.
We also recognize the unique challenges faced by young musicians outside of Asia who aspire to pursue Asian traditional music at a professional level. With the addition of our newly established China chapter and its advisor, Jing Xia, we are expanding opportunities for students around the world to receive professional online training in Chinese traditional instruments and participate in the China Conservatory of Music’s traditional music instrument proficiency examinations.
Through these programs, students living outside Asia can access high-quality specialized instruction and work toward nationally recognized certification without having to leave their home country. We welcome students who are passionate about pursuing Chinese traditional music professionally or continuing their studies at an advanced level to contact us for more information about online instruction and overseas examination opportunities.
